101 Pool Rummy: This variation of rummy has the element of elimination in every deal. The game goes on for a number of deals until all the players except one are eliminated because of having reached 101 points. The losing players get points equal to the total value of their unmatched or unarranged cards at the end of each deal. When a player’s score reaches 101 points, he/she is eliminated from the game and the player who survives till the end is declared the winner.
13-Card Rummy: In this Rummy variant, a player has to arrange 13 cards in sequences (including at least one pure sequence), or in sequences and sets. See Paplu below for more details.
201 Pool Rummy: The game of 201 Pool Rummy is the same as the game of 101 Pool Rummy except that the players are eliminated when they reach 201 points. The player who makes it till the end without accumulating 201 points wins the game.
Aces: A standard deck of 52 cards used in rummy contains 4 Aces. They come in the different suits of Clubs, Diamonds, Hearts and Spades. Aces can be used to form a lower-value sequence like Ace 2, 3, or they can be used to form a sequence with high cards, for example Ace, King and Queen. The points carried by each ace are 10. If a printed Joker is selected as the wild Joker, then Aces also function as wild Jokers, along with the printed Joker.
Best of Three: It is a form of Deals Rummy where players play for three rounds. The player who has won the highest number of chips, from the opponents, at the end of the three deals is declared the winner.
Buy-In: It refers to the cash amount that one pays to enter a cash rummy tournament. This is also referred to, more commonly, as ‘entry fee,’ which the player puts at stake. The accumulative buy-in forms the prize pool, which is won by the top-performing players of the tournament.
Cash Games: Cash games are played with real money and the winner wins real cash.
Chips: Chips are virtual money used for playing Rummy. At Junglee Rummy, every player gets 10,000 practice chips for free to play Practice games and sharpen their skills.
Closed Deck: It refers to a deck of face-down cards that are left after cards forming a complete hand have been dealt to each player. Players can pick cards (one on each turn) from the closed deck during their turns. The closed deck is reshuffled when all the cards have been picked by the players.
Deadwood: Deadwood is a term used to describe unmatched cards. In simple words, the cards that are not a part of any combination are known as deadwood. Usually, a losing player has some deadwood.
Deals Rummy:In this Rummy variant, players are allotted a certain number of chips for a pre-decided number of deals (generally 2, 3 or 6). After paying an entry fee, every player gets chips at the beginning of the game. Then the winner of every deal gets all the chips from the losing players. The player with the highest number of chips at the end of the final deal becomes the ultimate champion.
Dealing: It refers to the distribution of cards to each player by the dealer at the start of each hand a round of play). The dealing takes place after a toss is made to choose the dealer.
Dealer: The player who deals cards at the start of a hand is called the dealer. In offline games, the players themselves decide on who should be the dealer of the game or make a toss to decide that.
Deck: It refers to a pack of cards. A regular rummy deck has 52 cards. In 13-card rummy, two regular decks of cards including two printed Jokers.
Declare: When a player completes the objective of a 13-card rummy game, he/she finishes the game by discarding a card to the finish slot and declaring the cards in his/her hand to the opponents.
Discard: On a player’s turn, he/she has to draw a card from the closed or open deck and then put a card facing up on the open deck. This process of putting a card on the open deck is called discarding a card.
Discard Pile/Open Deck: A discard pile/open deck consists of cards discarded by players, except for the very first card. It is placed next to the closed deck and has one card facing up. After cards are dealt at the beginning of a game, one card from the remaining cards is placed face up on the table to form an open deck. Players can pick the top card from the discard pile, or they can draw cards from the closed deck.
Draw: On a player’s turn, he/she has to pick a card from the closed or open deck. This process is called drawing a card.
Drop: A player has the option to quit or leave the game before it concludes, which is called dropping. In online rummy, players can drop a game on their turn by clicking on the “Drop” button.
Face Card: All Kings, Queens, Aces and Jacks of all the suits are called face cards.
Full Count: Full count is the maximum possible points that can be scored by a player in a round/deal/game irrespective of the total value of cards in their hand.
Hand: The cards that are dealt to a player at the beginning of a game are called a hand. Each player has to arrange the cards in his/her hand in sequences and/or sets.
Impure Sequence: A group of three or more consecutive cards of the same suit formed with a Joker is called an impure sequence.
Joker: The Joker is a card that can be used as a substitute for a missing card in Rummy games. You can use it to create an impure sequence or a set. For example, if you have ?5, ?7, and ?8 in your hand, you need ?6 to form a sequence. But you can also use a Joker to complete the sequence.
Melding: Melding is the process of organizing cards into valid sequences and sets.
Paplu: Indian Rummy is known as Paplu in some parts of India. Indian Rummy/Paplu is slightly different from the American and European versions of the game.
Points: A deck consists of 52 cards and every card has a certain value. While numbered cards have the same values as the numbers on them, face cards, i.e. the Joker, Queen, King and Ace, have 10 points each. Also, points in the Rummy game are negative. A player who organizes all their cards successfully gets zero points and wins the game.
Points Value: Points value is a pre-decided value in a Rummy game that helps to determine the final
winnings of a player. We use the following formula to calculate winnings:
Winnings = Sum of the points of all the opponents X Value of each point in rupees – Junglee Rummy Fee
Points Rummy: Points Rummy is also known as Strikes Rummy. It is the fastest Rummy variant as the game lasts for only a few minutes. Up to 6 players can play at a table. They have to quickly meld their cards to win the game. This game is focused on points and every point has a certain rupee value. For losing players, the points are calculated on the basis of their unmatched cards.
Pool Rummy: In Pool Rummy, the prize pool is bigger than that in Points Rummy. This is an exhaustive game with no fixed number of deals. Players get eliminated on reaching a certain number of points. For instance, in 101 and 202 Points Rummy, a player will get eliminated on reaching 101 points and 202 points, respectively. Pure Sequence: A group of three or more consecutive cards of the same suit formed without a Joker is called a pure sequence.
Rummy Tournaments: Rummy tournaments are highly competitive and could last up to 5 rounds. Tournaments include freerolls/free-entry tournaments and cash tournaments. Players compete with each other to win real money in prizes. Every tournament follows a standard process -- players with the highest number of chips proceed to the next round.
Set: A group of three or four cards of the same rank but of different suits is called a set.
Sequence: A sequence is a group of consecutive cards of the same suit. It can be either pure or impure.
Shuffling: Shuffling is the process performed to maintain the randomness of cards. It is done both online as well as with physical cards. You shuffle physical cards by sliding them one over another over and over again with their faces down.
Suit: A suit is a set of 13 cards having the same color and symbol. There are four suits: Hearts (?), Diamonds (?), Spades (?), and Clubs (?).
Unmatched Cards: The cards that a losing player has failed to arrange in sets or sequences by the end of a game are called unmatched cards.
Wild Joker: The card that is selected as the Joker after the dealer has dealt cards is called the wild Joker. It can replace any card to form a sequence or set.
